Why the White Heart?

The white heart was selected in 1999 by the International Council of Nurses as a symbol to represent nursing worldwide.

White--depicts all color--all people globally. White is pure--free of infection. White is known for peace and hope, which nurses instill daily in their patients, families and communities.

Thus the White Heart represents the nurse, & nurses worldwide regardless of war, religion, socioeconomic status, political stance or belief...a nurse is a nurse--a White Heart, ready to stand and work with another White Heart in any circumstance because duty demands--and because our good hearts call us to do so.
